Xbox Series S : Microsoft makes its cheapest console official

Xbox Series S

Microsoft has finally confirmed the arrival of the new Xbox Series S console, the smallest of the new generation that will have a recommended retail price of € 299. For its part, the Xbox Series X will arrive at the end of 2020.

In recent days, leaks of the new consoles were happening everywhere, something that seems to have led Microsoft to use its official Xbox channels to confirm the model and features offered by the new Xbox Series S.

What is the Xbox Series S like?

In short, it is the cheapest, smallest and least powerful version of the Xbox Series X which is scheduled to arrive at the end of the year, coinciding with the Christmas season.

In a way, the S Series replaces the Xbox One S, while the X Series replaces the Xbox One X as the great colossus of the Xbox console generation within the Microsoft family.

Everything that we have been revealing is therefore confirmed that the new Xbox Series S completely omits the integration of disk drives so it will be totally digital and with cloud storage for the transmission and download of games.

How much will the Xbox Series S console cost?

It is a fact that Microsoft has confirmed and that for the European market the official price is set at € 299. Most people think that the Xbox Series X Premium Edition will sit around the € 400-500 range, but it is something that Microsoft has not confirmed yet.

In this way, the new compact console has a price aligned with the current Xbox One S , the one marketed by Microsoft that can currently be found at a price of € 229.99. It makes sense that the model initially arrives at a similar price.

What are the specifications of the Xbox Series S?

Among the specifications that we know of the S Series are that it has a power of about 4 Teraflops RDNA2, instead of the 12 Teraflops that the top model of the X Series will present.

As we see in the images shown by Microsoft, the XboxOne X chassis has been physically reused, with an opening on one of the sides to facilitate cooling of the internal components.

It really is much more compact than the Xbox Series X, as a result of having abandoned the integration of discs or physical storage units, which leads to a better arrangement of internal components.

What games does the Xbox Series S support?

Although it is to be confirmed, it is expected that the S Series will run all the same games as the X Series, with the logical difference in the display and acceleration of the graphics, so certain visual effects would be lost.

So, some of the most famous confirmed games would be titles like Halo Infinite, Cyberpunk 2077, Hellblade 2, Observer: System Redux, and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. This generation will also support titles such as those indicated here:

  • Bright Memory Infinite
  • Dirt 5
  • Scorn
  • Chorus
  • Madden 21
  • Vampyre the Masquerade: Bloodlines 2
  • Call of the sea
  • The Ascent
  • The Medium
  • Scarlet nexus
  • Second Extinction
  • Yakuza: Like a Dragon
  • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Images of titles from Xbox Game Studios, such as Halo, have not been revealed until the next Inside Xbox broadcast, which is expected to take place in July. In the meantime, you can watch the trailers and games unveiled in this May broadcast.
