Surface Laptop Go

Microsoft’s range of hardware for Windows Surface has been excellent for years and the traditional laptop is getting the Go treatment. Here’s what you need to know about the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go.

The device comes to expand the range around the flagship Surface Laptop 3 and the high-end Surface Book 3. It was the Surface Go which was, so far, the only ‘Go’ device in the range. Essentially it means a more stripped down and cheaper option for users with less demanding needs.

It means the Surface Laptop Go might be the best budget laptop you can get.

Says Microsoft: “It offers the perfect balance of style, performance and battery life in the lightest and most affordable laptop on Surface.”

When is the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go release date?

Microsoft announced the laptop on October 1 alongside the revamped Surface Pro X. The Surface Laptop Go’s release date is October 27.

How much does the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go cost?

As predicted, the price is very affordable with the Surface Laptop Go starting at £ 549 / $ 549. You can pre-order it now from the Microsoft Store and it will also be available on Amazon and Currys PC World.

These are the three models you can choose from:

  • Core i5, 4GB, 64GB – 629 euros
  • Core i5, 8GB, 128GB – 799 euros
  • Core i5, 8GB, 256GB – 999 euros

What are the specifications of the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go?

As you can see in the three previous models, things are quite simple since you only have to decide how much memory and storage you need. It’s closer to deciding on a phone than the normal set of laptop SKUs we’re used to.

Things start with a modest 64GB storage with 4GB of RAM, but that’s fine if you just want to do things online and don’t plan on having a lot of files or programs on the laptop. If you do, then 128 and 256 GB are available and both have double the RAM.

Whatever happens, you’ll have a quad-core Intel 10th Gen i5-1035G1 processor. This has integrated Intel UHD graphics.

The PixelSense screen is unsurprisingly a bit smaller and less impressive compared to the Laptop 3. It’s 12.4 inches with a 1536 x 1024 resolution, but the same 3: 2 aspect ratio and touch sensitive. .

Other key specs include a high definition webcam, a fingerprint scanner built into the ignition key, and a 13-hour battery life with “typical device usage.” There is a USB-C port next to USB-A, a headphone jack, and the Microsoft-owned Surface Connect port.
