Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold : PC with folding screen for sale
We are just months away from ending this atypical and complicated year 2020. It should be remembered for the possible milestones that may occur, in this case, the fact that a folding PC called ThinkPad X1 Fold is marketed for the first time.
Microsoft already showed last year its proposals for Surface Neo and Surface Duo . However, we still have no news of its possible commercialization. In this way, the new Lenovo equipment would truly be the first laptop with a folding screen to be put on sale.
At this point, no one doubts that it is a new category of personal computing, as it happened with folding screen smartphones , where it is intended to improve the way we interact with technology to be more productive.
The foldable OLED screen
This ThinkPad X1 Fold model is more of a tablet whose screen folds in half to reduce its dimensions and facilitate transport, which a folding PC like the brand strives to highlight.
Either way, it is still a new hybrid computer with a flexible 13.3-inch QXGA OLED screen that you can use as a full screen, or divide the display area to handle the Fold Mini keyboard accessory, another great essential in the equation.
The screen consists of many thin layers that are interspersed, each with a general purpose, be it technological or protective. Let’s not forget that the hinges go from being closed like a book to unfolding to be completely flat.
Fold Mini keyboard and Active Pen stylus
The fun here is that the Thinkpad X2 Fold keyboard can be used in a wide variety of ways, either as a remote-controlled device independent of the screen, or magnetically placed on top of one of the two screen halves.
The Lenovo Fold Mini uses a Bluetooth connection and can be comfortably charged by placing it on the computer, with up to eight hours of use for a four-hour charge. It is an advantage that when the equipment is folded, it takes advantage of it to load itself.
Something similar happens with the Active Pen, essential to be able to develop creativity with the computer and write on the screen, taking advantage of the benefits of the Windows 10 operating system.
In this sense, the equipment is marketed together with Windows 10 Home or Windows 10 Pro, with additional software developed by Lenovo known as Mode Switcher to manage and optimize the best experience of using the screen.
When folding or unfolding the screen, small icons appear in order to select if you want to use the screen as a single screen, or as a double screen for each different application.
In order to protect the screen, the ThinkPad X1 Fold includes an integrated leather cover, so in addition to protecting it from bumps and possible scratches, this element gives the computer a certain appearance of a closed book.
The lid has its own hinge mechanism to keep it taut in any position. A simple kickstand can be bent slightly to take different positions of use, as well as hung from the deck.
What is the price of the ThinkPad X1 Fold and where can I buy it?
The new ThinkPad X1 Fold has been presented by Lenovo along with a whole series of very relevant brand computers, such as the ThinkPad X1 Nano, both models equipped with the new Intel Evo platform with 11th generation Intel Core processors.
The ThinkPad X1 Fold can now be reserved to receive them in the coming weeks, with prices starting at € 3,999 in the standard configuration, and € 4,199 if you opt for the 5G module edition.
