Latest Lenovo IdeaPad S540 13-inch notebook
Lenovo’s IdeaPad S540 had already been announced at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, and combined with the S340 model managed to attract the attention of those looking for a laptop with excellent value for money.
Now, before being one of the most important technological events of the year, IFA 2019 in Berlin, Lenovo has announced updates to its Ultralight S340 and S540 laptops.
Then we ask you to work with the S540 model, to explain what has changed in relation to the previous model, what specifications and equipment it provides and if the new S540 is actually worth buying.
IdeaPad S540: Price and availability
You can currently purchase the IdeaPad S540 in its 15 and 14-inch versions (already announced at MWC). Both models are available on the official Lenovo website from € 799.
The new 13-inch version will also start its price at 799 euros and will be available to buy from October.
You can buy it in three different colors: Frost White (snow white), Ice Blue (snow blue) or Light Silver (light silver).
IdeaPad S540: Design and display
The screen size is actually 13.3 inches, making the S540 a small laptop and very suitable for transport from one side to the other.
As you probably know, the IdeaPad series consists of ultralight computers, which is why the S540 weighs only 1.2 kg. It feels elegant thanks to its aluminum finish and being lighter and lighter as well.
We are facing an IPS QHD panel (2560 x 1600), which means that its resolution is fairly standard, while still being quite good. The QHD resolution is higher than 1080p high definition, although it is not as great as UHD (3840 x 2160), i.e. it is half between the two. It also has a ratio of 300 nits, 16:10 and 227 pixels per inch.
What we’ve seen so far is pretty solid: the aluminum finish, the ultra-thin bevels screen, and the design of the IdeaPad S540 more than the acceptable quality of its screen makes us more fond of it than ever before.
IdeaPad S540: Specifications and tools
If we focus on its processor, the first thing we must tell you is that Lenovo allows you to choose between two different processor types: an Intel or an AMD.
If you opt for the Intel brand of processors you can choose 10th generation models with more advanced chips (6-core or 7-core i7) or with mid-range chips (i5 or i3). The AMD brand offers 3700U or 3500U options, also so you can opt for a more powerful chip in the first case, or less powerful in the second.
Everything will depend on the type of use you are going to give the device. Obviously, if you’re going to use the IdeaPad S540 to surf the Internet and watch videos, you don’t need to spend more money on processors with more powerful chips.
By choosing an AMD processor, you will get an integrated AMD graphics card as well, and by choosing an Intel, an NVIDIA GeForce MX250.
The choices do not end with the processor, since you can also choose the RAM you want (8 GB or 16 GB) and the storage memory (256, 512 or 1 TB).
As with the processor, if you are going to use the laptop moderately or just need it to use word processors and navigate, you don’t need to spend more money on having more GB. In fact, the option of 8 GB of RAM and 256 of ROM already make up a more than powerful device.
Other tools to highlight the device are its compatibility with Alexa or Cortana, fast chargingcapacity or biometric technology , among others. We will have to wait to test the device for a longer time to be able to talk about them all in more depth and clarify if they really are practical functions or not.
An integrated tool that has caught our attention is the so – called ‘Q-Control’ . This tool allows you to manually choose the power and energy that the laptop should use at all times.
Thanks to artificial intelligence, the laptop will learn to monitor the tasks that run in the background and the thermal attributes of your device to control the fans and optimize the battery so that it lasts much longer.
For example, you will find reduced power modes that you will want to use when watching videos or movies, since the fan will not make so much noise and will not bother you; or “turbo-feeding” modalities when you are working on tasks that require a faster computer response.
When we have the opportunity to test Lenovo IdeaPad S540 13 inches long and hard, we will complete this article with more information, so don’t lose any detail.
