How to activate Alexa Skills

activate Alexa Skills

Amazon’s Alexa is more than just a voice assistant, so you and your family can be enhanced by customizing it appropriately with familiar Skills. What do we know by special abilities? We will tell you.

First of all, we assume that you have an Amazon Echo speaker (or any other device with Alexa), with an Amazon account and the Alexa assistant already configured. Otherwise, you can get a 4th generation Echo Dot for € 59.99 at Amazon , or the previous generation Echo Dot for € 29.90.

One of the newer Skills is the one associated with Domino’s Pizza, so you can say ‘Alexa, repeat my last Domino’s Pizza order’ and your order will automatically go live.

These skills also give you the ability to interact naturally with Alexa, asking ‘Alexa, how’s my pizza?’, So that Alexa will check the status of your order through ‘Pizza Tracker’.

How to use Alexa Skills

Activating the Skills or Alexa skills is simple. Within the app, scroll right so you can see the menu. Click on ‘Skills’ and you will see that an application store appears that you can browse based on categories.

Here you can check all the Skills relationship that you can manage with your Amazon account.

These skills are evaluated by users so that you can get a quick idea of their usefulness. Since these are free skills, you will be able to test and disable them whenever it suits you. You can also search for them by theme or categories, such as weather, food, sports, etc.

How to enable Alexa skills

When you find an interesting one, you just have to press the ‘Enable Skill’ button. It does not differ from the typical installation of any application, except that there is no need to download anything or use storage space on your device or mobile.

How to use Amazon Echo Skills

In the description of a Skill (as shown in the images), it will tell what to say to Alexa in order to use it. For example, if you travel by train, you can activate the Skill ‘Renfe AVE Information’ . In this way, you can request ‘Alexa, ask Renfe for AVE schedules from Madrid to Barcelona’.

You will find that some skills are better than others, and you will usually find limitations. As you become more familiar with the appropriate commands, you will see that Alexa gains integers when it comes to offering you information or taking action.

Optimize the Skills of your Smart Home

Another example is LIFX smart lights and their ‘LIFT Optimized for Smart Home’ skill. This means you don’t have to say “Alexa, ask LIFX to …” because the optimized skills are like the native ones. You will have to say “Alexa, turn off the lights.”

When you enable the LIFX feature, and this is typical for smart home features, you will need to log into your LIFX account in the app to authorize your Amazon account to use those login details and control your devices.

If you have lights throughout the house, you will also have to name (or rename) lights or groups of lights to be able to control them with your Amazon Echo.

How to enable Alexa Skills

If you have a group called “Living Room”, you can say, “Alexa, turn on the living room lights,” but you can also say, “Alexa, turn on the living room. It may sound strange, but the simpler the command, the more likely it will understand you and execute it correctly.

The Philips Hue skill is worth checking out as this connected home app can make multiple things happen with a single command. Currently, Alexa can only do one thing at a time, but brands work on creating routines (such as environments in Apple Home or IFTTT recipes).
