Slimbook PRO X: is it worth your purchase?
While there are features that we miss as fingerprint sensors or SD card slots, there is no doubt that the SlimBook has designed a nice ultralight laptop that will appeal to both Linux and Windows users.
We recommend betting on only one operating system, as this will ensure that you make maximum use of your processor, RAM and space power. For the price, we’ve seen similar laptops with better value for money.

Review of the ultralight Slimbook Pro X laptop
Linux is one of the leading manufacturers of laptops. In our day, we analyzed more than the already decent Katana II, and now they surprised us with Ultra X.
It is true that SlimBook is to lead sales of laptops that use the Linux operating system, but their devices are also available to Windows users.
You’ll find cheaper alternatives to Windows than this Pro X, but we wanted to try it with Microsoft systems because it is more popular. Next we bring you an analysis of its design, performance and performance.
Price and availability
For now, the SlimBook Pro X laptop can only be purchased on the company’s website and in Spain. We expected it to be somewhat more popular to see in other technology stores such as Lenovo, Dell, Asus, or Apple laptops.
Ultralight has a starting price of € 998. As you add more powerful specifications to this basic configuration, the cost of the laptop also increases. For 32 GB RAM, for example, you have to pay € 200 extra.
You can also customize the hard drive as per your choice. If you only want one or if you want to add another hard drive that you already have, there will be no additional cost. On the other hand, to use this ultralight with Windows 10, you have to pay € 105 more.
Design and manufacturing quality
The Pro X has a compact design that stands out, among other things, for its lightness. It is surprisingly lightweight (1.1 kg), which makes it a very easy and convenient device to transport. We’ve worked with him for hours, and if you use him on his knees it doesn’t feel heavy.
SlimBook has used a special aluminum and magnesium alloy, for which they are certainly capable of achieving such lightness.
The Finnish is available only in light gray, a color that reflects elegance and which will be able to satisfy almost all the flavors. However, we would love to see more finishing options in the future, such as black classic or dark gray.
After its lightness, its dimensions are stunning: the 14.4-inch screen is supported on a smaller chassis than the MacBook Air, thanks to the lack of bezels that are 4.2 mm thick.
This means that we have to face ultra-thin bezel screen with 16-9 aspect or 86% ratio.
Performance and features
The screen has an IPS LED panel which provides a fairly optimal quality. As we explained the above lines, this is 12.8 in the house, 14.4 inches, which means that its ratio is 86%.
The SlimBook includes an anti-leak technology, intended to eliminate the “light leak” problem that some IPS screens suffer, and the truth is that it works. The colors look crisp and the viewing range is 170 and.
The panel is matte, which means that it can be used in a more light environment (such as on the road) in contrast to the bright screen. However, almost all new notebook models provide matte finishes because they are very practical at the end.
The brightness is 300 nits, a figure that we can consider to be the standard in 2019.
The truth is that the Pro X offers a wide variety of ports. We find two USB 3.1 ports (Gen 1, Type A), a USB-C (3.1 General 1), a USB 2.0, HDMI output, RJ-45 Ethernet and a 3.5 jack headphone jack.
Something that has surprised us and delighted that if you want, SlimBook offers you the option to add a CD / DVD reader. This is a fairly obsolete option (some new laptops come with a CD player), but we are sure many users will select it.
We have probably missed an SD card reader or Thunderbolt 3 input.
Sound, camera and microphone
Today, we only use laptops to work in Word or surfing the Internet. We also want it to be able to enjoy movies and television series from streaming or external hard drives.
SlimBook Pro X will also allow you to do this. Apart from not having to worry about running out of battery and enjoying a fairly standard screen, you also need to know that this laptop has a multi-channel speaker.( ultralight Slimbook Pro X laptop )
If you just want to watch a movie lying in bed then the volume will be more than enough. Instead, if you have the idea of doing a movie session with your friends, you will need to buy a separate speaker or soundbar.
It is also worth considering that SlimBook has not decided to end the Jack Port. This has long been a trend, especially in the mobile telephony field, but we positively note that you can still use it to connect the best headphones.
Keyboard and trackpad
After working with the Pro X we can say that the keys feel soft, it is not necessary to press very hard, and the layout is very comfortable. Perhaps this is because the keys are 16% wider than the previous models.
Another feature that reminds us of the features that SlimBook usually offers so that you can customize your device to your liking is that you can choose the keyboard map you want by country. At the moment you can choose between Spanish, German or English.
The keyboard design stands out slightly, so you can better appreciate the keys’ backlight.
Touchpad is larger than Pro Base (41% wide, accurate), offers dimensions of 11.6x7x2 centers. The trackpad is a continuous structure consisting of two buttons without separation to avoid cuts.
As always, the trackpad has been deactivated when using the keyboard, and allows you to configure the touchbook so that you can customize your experience with the SlimBook Pro X.
Performance, storage, RAM and battery life
As is often done with laptops, manufacturers give users the option to customize their components, especially when it comes to choosing storage capacity and RAM. This is the case in case of Pro X.( ultralight Slimbook Pro X laptop )
This ultralight slimbook can be purchased with 8 GB, 16 GB or 32 GB RAM. You can also choose whether you want SSD or NVME SSD with 250 GB, 500 GB or 1 TB capacity. However, the second disk can only be of the NVMe SSD type.
SlimBook incorporates a quad-core Intel i7-8565U processor (8th generation) at 1.8 GHz with turbo boost up to 4.6 GHz. It is also notable for the presence of a dedicated Nvidia GeForce MX250 graphics card, which is more powerful than the Intel UHD 620 integrated into the processor.
But what does all these specialties mean for practical purposes? We’ve been able to test the laptop for a couple of weeks and the truth is that it always responds well to basic office tasks: writing in a word processor, surfing the internet, listening to music …
Only important when you turn on the laptop after sleeping it. You’ll notice that it doesn’t go as fast as other computers, especially if they’re from Apple. Not for this, we will stop recommending Pro X, but it can be annoying.
In this section of exhibition, we can not stop commenting on the autonomy of the battery. After all, laptops are made for use far from an outlet. According to the Slimbook, it should be between 6 to 7 hours and we can confirm that this is: enough for one day’s work, but not for much.
Software: compatible operating systems
As we said earlier, SlimBook is one of the leading brands for Linux laptops. You can choose from several Linux distributions: Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Ubuntu Mate, Debian, Elementary OS, Linux Mint, Manjaro, KDE Neon or Zorin OS.
However, as we said earlier, we have just tested the laptop with the Windows operating system, because we think this is the people who will use the most. It works well and offers what you can expect from the Windows 10 version.( ultralight Slimbook Pro X laptop )
Of course, you will need to install programs that do not come pre-installed in the factory, such as Microsoft Office programs, Adobe Creative Cloud or Internet Explorer or a web browser other than Microsoft Edge.

After several days of use, it is not difficult to recommend the SlimBook Pro X model for us. This is a good Linux laptop. If you use it with Windows like us, you will have no complaints about its performance, although the price is somewhat expensive if we compare it with other rivals.
It is fair to emphasize that SlimBook has thought of it as Linux users, but the truth is that there are many more Windows users and that is why we have preferred to try it with this system. However, Pro X is dependent on the work.
Excluding the operating system and price, we actually find an ultralight laptop. This lightness is specified in weight of 1.1 kg, which will allow you to move it everywhere. A battery will suffice for one working day.
The design of the laptop will not disappoint you, especially if you are looking for a computer where you can connect all your accessories and peripherals. Unlike the new MacBook, Pro X has all the ports you may need.
We also appreciate that the full-HD screen uses anti-leaking technology, although it is common in today’s market, and SlimBook has opted for a larger touchpad than the previous model, but we have a fingerprint sensor miss.( ultralight Slimbook Pro X laptop )
