Oppo Reno 10x Zoom: is it worth your purchase?
The Triple Rear camera of Oppo Reno 10x Zoom has met our expectations, which results in both daylight and night good results. Optical zoom is also good, but we have seen better portrait modes.
We should give credit to Oppo to create an innovative front camera system, although we are concerned about its resistance. The overall display of 10x zoom and its battery is also more than decent, though the smartphone does not stand out for its glow.

Review of the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom
Following its official presentation in Zurich in April last, Oppo introduced its new series of Renault smartphones in the Spanish market. Now, we have an opportunity to fully test the most premium terminal in the range: Reno 10x Zoom.
Although both models have the same design, but it is easy to differentiate each other by looking at the screen. Reno measures 10x zoom to 6.6 inches, while the standard model measures 6.4 inches.
However, the most prominent difference between another terminal is found in the back. Instead of the dual camera found in the most expensive smartphones, instead of three cameras, plus x 10 zoom (we mean what it means).
Do not miss our impressions on Reno 10x Zoom, especially for its versatile cameras, its latest generation processor and its optimal battery life, a good bet by Oppo to enter the Spanish market.
Price and availability
Oppo Reno 10x Zoom officially went for sale in Spain in June last, after some time the standard Oppo Reno also did. On the 5G model, however, the date of launch in Spain is still unknown.
The price of the 10x zoom model is € 799, which is 300 € more than the original model, and it can be purchased through the official Oppo channel of Amazon Spain. You will also find it in stores like MediaMarkt, Fnac, El Corte Inglés or GearBest.
Design and manufacturing quality
Oppo Reno’s design is quite simple (at least at first glance), but is less attractive. This Ocean is available in Green (green) and Jet Black (black) colors, which the company says is inspired by nature.
It has both back and glass front. In front we get the 6.6 “screen logically, while the back cornering Gorilla Glass 5.0 3D glass is used, which, in fact, makes it a very sophisticated look.
Perhaps someone who finds the terminal a bit elusive, so it is advisable to use a protective case. Instead, you will not need it to protect the rear camera lens which Oppo says “o-dot”.
Below this lens there is a small rounded bump which does not touch the back part of the terminal directly from the surface on which you support it but without spreading it too much. This way the lens is protected.
Along with other phones, we have advised you to use a case to avoid a troubled fingerprint mark in the smartphone with a glass back. However, in this case it is a difficult problem, at least in the black model.
Reno 10x zoom design has a big drawback dimension. Although its 16.2 x 7.72 cm height and width is easy to handle, we find it particularly thick and heavy. This is the cost of paying for such a capacity battery.
Although Bezal is thicker than other models, the screen takes advantage of almost the entire surface, especially thanks to the absence of footprint. Front camera is found in a retractable system in the shape of shark wings on top.
Later we will give more information about this Oppo innovation, but according to aesthetics, this is only a good solution when it is closed. We like the solution of integrated camera selfie in the screen in which the company is working.
We are particularly worried about the resistance of this system, although it is true that in order to automatically detect the phone in our tests, the automatic repatriation system has always worked so that it is in free fall. Apart from this, Oppo water is not resistant.
As a button, on the right we find the power button, with a green detail, which will never lose sight of you. On the left, there are volume buttons, and at the bottom, we have a SIM slot, a microphone and a USB c.
The AMOLED screen of Oppo Reno 10x zoom measures 6.6 inches and it is one of the main differences with the standard model with the 6.4 “panel. The aspect ratio of both phones is the resolution of 19.5: 9 and 2340 x 1080.
As we said earlier, the monitor has a spectacular screen-body ratio of 93.1% in the absence of both the thin bevel and the front of any type of front. Of course, this ratio is smaller than other models.
For the quality of the screen, the colors are vibrant, although sometimes some are saturated. In general terms, Oppo Reno 10x Zoom clearly reproduces photos, video and video games.
On a sunny day, you can not activate the energy efficiency mode and once you see the screen properly. If you want to reply to the message or surf the internet, then you should leave the possibility of battery saving in the background.
According to OPPO during official presentation in Zurich, the screen is designed to reduce energy consumption by up to 8% and also has TlandV Rheinland Eye Protection Guarantee.
We are going to what interests us the most: the cameras. For starters, Oppo has opted for a sliding system on top. When activating the front camera, an alita-shaped mechanism opens and exposes the 16 MP selfie camera and the front and rear flash .
According to the company, the system can be opened up to 200,000 times (100 times a day for 5 years) and also, as we said, it will close if you notice that it is in free fall. However, we still worry that it could be broken.
If we turn around the Reno 10x Zoom, we find a triple rear camera similar to the Huawei P30 Pro . The main lens is 48 MP (f / 1.7) and is accompanied by a telephoto lens of 13 MP (f / 3.0) and a wide angle of 8 MP of 120 degrees (f / 2.2).
You may fall into the error of thinking that the Reno 10x Zoom offers an optical zoom of up to 10 magnifications. Actually, the optical zoom only reaches 5 increases (equally impressive), while it has a hybrid zoom up to x10 and a digital zoom up to x60.
When you go to take a picture, you will see that a circle appears indicating the zoom. Interestingly, you can only jump from x1 to x2, x6 and x10, while to get the 5 optical zoom increases you must do it manually.
Below you can see a comparison of the quality of the zoomed photos. As expected, as you increase, you lose clarity. You will also notice how it is more complicated to frame the image since much stability is lost.
You can see the photos with more quality in this gallery .
The results achieved with the wide angle are not as clear as those achieved with the main lens. This gets excellent images, very similar to those of the Huawei P30, and with lots of light. With the HDR mode activated (second picture), something more saturated will come out.
The Oppo Reno 10x Zoom also makes good photos when there is little light. We recommend using the night mode to obtain photos with colors more true to reality. You can see in this example, also, that the image without the activated mode is more saturated.
On the other hand, the incorporation of artificial intelligence in the camera system allows optimizing the results, since the smartphone is able to detect if you are portraying a plant, a person or a plate of food, or if you are making a macro photo.
Look at the difference of these two photographs. Both present a fully focused foreground object while the background is blurred. The result of the macro mode (first photo) is much more natural than the artificial blur of the portrait mode (second photo).
Continuing with the portrait mode, this also looks artificial in unrealized photos from so close up or if we use the selfie camera . In the second photo, for example, you can see how the outline of the shirt or the hair has not been well outlined.
Returning to the back camera, it is capable of recording 4K videos at up to 60 fps. The stabilization is good, and this is due to using both optical and electronic stabilization. The sound captured is also more than decent.
Oppo Reno 10x zoom is available in only one configuration: 8 GB RAM and 256 GB of space. It is with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor and Adreno 640 GPU, which performs very well.
Reno Range’s premium model will respond well to everything you ask, whether it’s basic messaging, Internet browsing or social networks, as well as more demanding videos and video games.
Below you can see the results of the benchmarking test for which we have submitted the phone. With 11,333 points in the Geekchain, leaving the models like OnePlus 7 Pro or Samsung Galaxy S10, it is difficult to find another mobile with a better result.
Connectivity, audio and battery life
The battery of the Reno 10x Zoom has a capacity of 4065 mAh. We have submitted it to the benchmarking test GFXBench to test its maximum capacity and has obtained an impressive result of 12 hours and 32 minutes.
Having both this and our own experience in mind, the battery life of the Reno 10x Zoom is excellent. You can use it quietly for a whole day, or even two if you use the phone lightly.
This model is compatible with the fast charge Super VOOC 3.0. However, we have not been able to verify its performance, since we have not been provided with the charger that comes in the box with the sample copy.
We could load it with a USB C cable from another device and the truth is that it took much longer than expected to load only 30%. In addition, we are disappointed that this price is not compatible with wireless charging.
It also does not include a headphone jack port , unlike the standard model. On the other hand, it is compatible with NFC technology and with Google Pay. You can also use two SIM cards at the same time or a SIM card and a microSD.
In terms of unlocking the screen, we have found the configuration of the unlocking by facial recognition easier and faster than in other phones. To use it, you must slide up. This will activate the front camera and unlock the screen.
Something longer is the process to configure the fingerprint sensor, embedded in the screen. Of course, your phone will be unlocked faster. In fact, it will not give you almost time to see the animation that appears on the screen and that you can also customize to your liking.
The 10x Zoom has two speakers: one to the bottom left of the USB C port and another almost imperceptible in the upper bezel. That offers stereo sound, although most of the audio comes out through the lower speaker, which can be annoying.
Oppo’s flagship comes with the latest generation of installed color schemes. ColorOS 6 is based on Android 9.0, but it adds a design that brings it closer to Apple’s iOS, but logically with Android Touch.
The interface is beautiful and the icons are quite large. The colors used are soft, but you can read the songs completely. The software has two features above all: control by gestures and duplicate screens.
On the one hand, you can control some tasks with the blocking gestures and configure them according to your choice. For example, you can determine that the camera is opened while dragging a circle or while flashing the ‘V’ the flashlight is on.
On the other hand, you can move the three fingers and activate the split screen. Therefore, when you reply to the message, you can watch a video on YouTube. Of course, remember that the app you open is the first one that will stay the same.

Oppo has been in the Spanish market only a few months after its arrival in 2018, but its goal to expand and grow in Spain and the rest of Europe is clear. This is demonstrated by his constant desire to innovate.
One way to get it right could be the Reno range. Especially the Reno 10x Zoom has features that can attract the public: excellent cameras, fantastic performance and good battery life.
The sliding front camera may not be for everyone, and we are worried that it may break, but this Oppo will certainly compete with the Huawei and Samsung flagships in regards to the rear cameras.
Although you can put some buts, you will not have to sacrifice practically in any aspect when you buy the Reno 10x Zoom. It is a very complete mobile, although it is true that it has no wireless charge and is not waterproof.
