Amazon Introduces Fire TV Stick Lite and New Fire TV Stick
Amazon announced a new Fire TV Stick at its hardware event on September 24, along with a cheaper Fire TV Stick Lite. Both devices are available for pre-purchase and will begin shipping next week.
The Lite option supports full HD streaming on Fire TV and features a new Alexa Voice Remote Lite for voice navigation.
Both the new Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Stick Lite top the list with 50% more power than the previous Fire TV Stick. Internally, a 1.7Ghz quad-core processor enables faster streaming at 1080p at 60fps on the new Fire TV Stick.
Customers can also expect 5GHz Wi-Fi support for a more reliable connection on the new Fire TV Stick, which will also consume 50% less power than the previous generation.
Also at the core of Amazon’s updates is a user experience redesign that aims to “deliver a more intuitive, simple and personalized experience,” according to Amazon – including smoother Alexa Voice navigation.
As for the interface, the main menu will now be centered on the screen to facilitate navigation through the content, while a new “Search” function will make it easier for viewers to discover new shows and movies.
How much do the Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Stick Lite cost?
With Amazon’s Prime Day event most likely taking place next month, we anticipate that Prime members may be aware of the discounts, although Amazon has not revealed such plans.
The new Fire TV Sticks will also be available to buy from Argos, Currys PC World, Very, Littlewoods, and Tesco.
However, the latest generation of Fire TV Stick is no longer available. The new Fire TV Stick will replace the non-4K version of the Fire TV Stick, which is no longer listed on Amazon.
Earlier this week, the oldest version appeared as “Currently Not Available” on Amazon’s website, which is typically Amazon’s way of removing older models before a launch.
The latest generation of Fire TV Stick was launched in 2019 (read our review) and cost 49.99 euros. Although Amazon is not offering it on their site, it is still available from other retailers, so we hope to see it on sale soon.
Google is also about to launch a new smart home kit that includes a Chromecast that runs Android TV.
